How can we work together to support young dads and young dads-to-be?
The "Becoming Dad" film was developed following a Partnership Locality Event in Harborough District. The need for dedicated information and support for young dads and dads-to-be had been identified through young people supported by the Children's Centre Programme in the District. The project has been an important learning experience for everyone concerned and we are keen to build on from the learning across the partnership.
Many research projects have been carried out that identify the need for more work to be done in this area, not least "All Babies Count - The Dad Project" which you can download from this page.
Councillor Ernie White, county council cabinet member for health, said: “We have made positive steps in supporting young mothers but this film shows that Fathers may sometimes feel excluded and that their role is undervalued. We need to work better to support fathers because they have such an important role to play in the development of their child.”
We'd love to hear from professionals who'd like to support the ongoing development of this area of work, so that we can create best practice examples that mean all young dads and dads-to-be in Leicestershire receive high quality support to support them in their transition to parenthood.
Let's work together to make things better!
